  • Those hard to find 3/4 Caplugs/drainplugs

I was trying to find replacement drain plugs for the MaxIV . Found the name brand Caplugs on the internet but the company only offered them in lots of 1000. or if you wanted 5,000. What in the world would you do with 2,500 sets of replacement drain plugs? Sooo of I go to E-Bay and found in the industrial/business section, the same brand and size, in lots of 100 for about $8.00. verses $76.00 for 1000 pcs. from the original manufacturer. So now I've only got enough replacement plugs for 50 sets. Of which I fully expect to lose 49 sets. Anyway there you go.

Commercial Forms sells them for about $4/ hundred, but if you have the skid plate I'd switch to the kayak style that Argo uses....they don't fall out.

I would stay away from the kayak plugs with the 2 screw flanges. went thru about 6 already on my max 2. ripped them out flange and all. Really sucks when you when you are in the water and find the bilge pump cant keep up. also found that if the Stock plug gets loose force a washer into it after its installed

The only drain plugs I've seen were screw-in type on our Avenger. The drain holes
        were at the back.
What do Max plugs look like and where are the holes located?

Sounds like these plugs "fall off" easy. Is it something to be worried about? I ask because
I'm buying a Max IV soon.
        Thank you.

I haven't lost any, or have them come loose and fall out. It is only when you have to pry them out of the opening to clean or drain the chain channels. I've always damaged them while removing them and I don't have the guts to reuse damaged plugs. I guess this paranoia comes from having SUNK my Argo several months ago, (unrelated incident). The drain plugs are in the rear of the machine, left and right. Unless the hole has been enlarged/damaged these buggers fit TIGHT!

Thank you. I figure a few spares on hand is a wise decision.

I got the website for commercial forms but I don't see the plugs that I have in my MaxIV. My plugs are black and have one lip on the inside and not as deep as what I saw on commercial forms site. Maybe I'm missing something so can you give us a product number for what you ordered?

Marc, there is a secret way to fix that.....I changed the angle of the tub at the plugs on mine. With the tub vertical at the drain holes it protects the kayak plugs.

Commercial Forms only sells the generic caplugs, not the same thing as Recreatives uses. They work the same way, but will fall out on occasion.

The original manufacturer is Caplug www.caplug.com The markings on my original plugs are...BP-3/4 they are listed partway down on the caplug spec sheet. The ones that I ordered from E-Bay should be here today. I'll confirm on the correct size, fit and part #"BP-3/4" when they arrive.

I used a unistrut square washer inside and outside the tub, with a 2' piece of all thread. I sandwiched the tub w/the washers and heated the area around them while pulling up on the all thread. When it was where I wanted it I held the rod in place with a jack stand for over night. The bend was below the frame so it worked very well. With a standard MaxII it should have much more room than with my extended frame.

If you pass a small screwdriver in beside the factory plug about 1/2 inch then pry it out they are undamaged. If pulled out by the lip they tear. I've had a sample plug in old tub section for demonstration for years. The same plug is at least 6 years old now and has probably been removed 200 times. I also tape a pair of new plugs under the dash with duct tape. Iv been in the field before remembering the plugs. Iv manufactured aluminum screw in plugs. They worked good but were time consuming. Tried baitwell plugs, they pull out in the brush. If the factory holes are tight the BP-3/4 plug works great. With practice they are easy to remove and reuse.

Look for bait box plugs at any fishing supply store. They're 3/4" and have flip handles that "mushroom" the back of the rubber plug. I bought a pair in a package for $4.99 at the local Ace Hardware. Pop 'em in from the top so the handles are inside. It would take an alful hard push to shove 'em out backwards.
