Post up some pictures of the hole you are trying to patch, we may have some better advise. buying a sheet of HDPE may make for a tough patch job due to the complex bends and ribs that are molded into the original tub.

I have a lower in excellent condition, but I'm as far away from you as the factory in Buffalo, and I bet they have a good quality second (minor imperfections).

i can understand that, the more i think about it the more i think i can fix this. just hold on to that tub and give it to somebody who really needs it. i just need a little more knowledge from you. when purchasing virgin poly what is a good thickness i should shoot for?

This weekend I'm busy in PA. Saturdays typically are not good for me right now with my kids sports and activities. I go to Akron every other weekend though and may be able to meet later in the day next weekend.

I'm in meadville, pa. I have a somewhat molested lower tub sitting in Akron Ohio area though. I think it has a few holes, but you could use one to patch the other. Your cost would be the fuel to get there and back.

Where is drew? I am in southern west Virginia no one around here is into the 6x6 so there is really no parts floating around. I figure a used lower tub will cost me around a thousand just for the simple fact that i have to drive to pick it up

Might be worth drivin up to meet Drew, he could probably hook you up with a lower needing much less repairs.

The top and bottom should be bolted together. The only thing holding the frame into the lower is the 6 axles and their bearings and flanges. Remove the axles and the frame will pull out. It's not as easy as it sounds though. Axle removal can be a pain.

so the test came back that it is poly very good news no I just need to find poly to do some patching. One more question I it seems like the frame is melted into the lower piece can I just heat that up to separate the lower haul and the frame?

Poly, also known as hdpe, and abs or both types of plastics. It should soften within a half hour and if you do a scratch test a goo like film will be on the top of whatever you scratched it with. If it's poly, it will just be a cleaner piece of plastic.

I'm not positive, but I think 1969 was the only year for abs. Take a sliver and put it in a jar with acetone. If it melts its abs, if it is unaffected, it's poly.

Well cleaning up my max I found the serial number which is 3793 which means it was made in some time in early 70s which means that it was abs plastic I have a hole that was cut into the hull about one foot to foot and half. I do not thank this is possible to patch. So if anybody is around southern West Virgania with a body please let me know. I really could use one.
