I'm looking around for chains for my Max IV rebuild. I can find singles on Ebay for reasonable prices but not several boxes of all the same brand. Is there any problem connecting together different brands of chain? If I have a part not long enough to make a whole chain with, can I use two connecting links and make use of two leftover pieces if they're different brands?

I realize the connecting link will be weaker than the rest of the chain.

    Thanks.

I recently found a great deal on EBAY for #50 diamond chain, it ended up costing about $1.00 / linear foot. Hang in there and don't get in any great rush, the deals will materialize.
I think any chain rated at 8500lb tensile strength or higher will work for a Max2 that has 20hp or less. I would never mix different brands of chain on one section of chain, I would replace in sections (for example: replace rear 2 chains at the same time). Better yet, to replace all chain at one time.
I've even used tractor supply cheapy chain on several occasions, it stretches a lot and there will need to be adjustments, so its better to go with quality chain as it will last longer and require less maintenance.

I'm finding 120 links of 530 O-ring chain for $35. That seems like a good deal. Is it?

Tsubaki and Bike Master. The Bike Master is also made in Japan. I bought the Tsubaki having heard that brand is good.

Hi I found HKK chains on amazon.com, 50FT for 560 USD seemed good value to me.
Hope HKK chains are good ?

That's way too much......practically full retail price actually. Check ebay for much better prices than that.

I'm running #50 HKK solid roller chain on my Swamp Fox, and it's holding up pretty well; I'd buy it again. On ebay, a 10ft. length should run you between $35 and $50 shipped, but there are plenty of more expensive auctions. I tried it on a whim and was happy with it....
