  • My first Max IV restoration

New to 6x6 world, information from the sight has been great. Traded a trailer for a Max IV came with 16hp briggs and 20 hp Kolher. Snow plow and other items and it ran. It had been used had some signs of rust and bearing noise worn out chain. No problem easy stuff. Wrong axels bent all sprokets and bearings shot. Frame is rusted to point of no return. I'm just happy I work for an equipment manufacturer with a machine shop. Started calling for prices on sprocket sets Wow!! expensive. I do have a question has anyone ever made the axles 2" longer to give it a little wider footprint?? Any possible problems by doing this? Will post pics on the progress.
Thanks for the wealth of knowledge on this site.

I don't think anyone has ever made longer axles although you certainly could. With hub/axle extensions already available most who want a wider footprint mainly to run tracks just use the extensions.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
      Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

I also believe member amphibiousdrew has some factory splined blems for the 4.

I had some, but only bought enough for my projects. However, I did negotiate a big axle deal and know where the extra axles went. If you need some pm me and I can try and help you out.

I'm making my axles an inch longer. I wanted a bit more clearance but still wanted to fit in the bed of my truck.

Thanks for the responding to my questions. Making a material list to build sprokets and frame rails. When building a roll cage I have some 1" 1/2 .120 wall tube what do's and don'ts should I consider not to take away from running my max in water? Never owned one before drove it once then took it apart. First one I seen in my neck woods. Its the coolest toy I ever owned worth the complete rebuild. Sorry off topic just excited to own one!!What mods do I need to do if I go splined shafts?
              Thanks again Norcal 6x6
