  • Sheared Rear Axle

Hello everyone. I just got my first aatv max IV. I believe that its a 2002 . (Not sure) went down to GA and brought it back Thursday. Spent all day Saturday cleaning it up taking floors and seats out adjust the chains as the manual said and lubrated everything. Took it out late Saturday to Royal Blue here in Tennessee. After riding for an hour or so my wife and I decided to head back to the truck. On the way in the rear left axle sheared and the back left tire cocked to the back of the machine and made the left side inoperable. We tried for hours to get the chain free of the rear axle . Finally after being soaked by freezing rain we called for rescue. They reached our GPS coordinate and helped us out. I would have tried to hike out the nine miles but I was injured in Afghanistan earlier this year and I now have a colostomy from the damaged caused by the the bullet wound ( hit my left lungand lost 5' of small intestine and 40% of my colon) thats partially why I got a 6×6 and im not riding a four wheeler any longer. But the rescue team dragged the aatv with the side by side back to the trail head with the left side completely locked up (amazed that we made it back all in tact) . Thank goes out to them for their good work and quick response. I haven't assessed the damage due to freezing rain has kept me inside all day. And sleep . I have been searching the Internet and can't seem to find prices and only a limited selection of sites that even have few parts. I looked at Richard site but no prices are listed . Can anyone help me with locating the parts I will need. I have downloaded directions on removing the rear axle but finding the parts and prices seem to be more challenging. I am appreciative for any help with this I can receive. It sux to get t spend all dy going through it per the manual direction just to need to be rescued from the trail first time taking it out. The reason I tighten the chains was they were dragging the bottom of the aatv. Thanks again and hope to hear from you all soon.

First off, glad you made it back safely. Second, don't deal with Richard's Relics because you'll get an inferior quality part at a very high price and very poor customer service (there have been quite a few people that bought axles from him and they broke after a few hours of normal use). It sounds like you might need a bearing and an axle. Do you know if your axle is splined or does it have a bolt going through the sprocket tube to hold it on? Also, what's the serial number on your machine? This will tell you what year your machine is. If your Max has splined axles, I'd say give Tony a call here on the site (tony240z I believe is his user name). He has a stock of brand new OEM Max IV splined axles that he'll sell you at a very good price, probably around half of what Richard Clark charges. If you have the pinned axles, call Recreatives directly. Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511 Hope this helps and welcome aboard!

Hey thanks for that I didn't know that about Richards I have not bought anything for my max yet I would like to shop around for the best price. The serial number is 16228. I am going to inspect the machine this week when the weather is a little better I will have more information on the axle then.

Based on your serial number, your Max IV looks to be a 1999 model. Let us know what you find when you get a better look at it.
