I own a Max IV, 18hp Vanguard, 26 inch tires at about 3.5 PSI. We currently have about 9 inches of snow where I live in Wisconsin. The machine moves fine when going straight ahead or backing up straight, but I am having difficulty making turns to the point that it even gets stuck until I straighten out. The bottom of the tub is definitely dragging in the snow. Am I doing something wrong or is the Max IV not capable of getting around in this depth of snow without tracks? Is there a technique to making turns in the snow?

I've blown through 18-20 inches of powder with an Attex. I've also been stuck in half that amount when the snow was heavy/packing with 70% tread on Runamucks. I would have thought your Max IV would go 9 inches of snow in any condition.

Wet snow your going to need full tracks , open track designs will also dig in and your stuck in the hole. I have the same issue here in New England ,,, saving my penny's for snow tracks ... maybe some day ..

I will have to save for new wheels and tires too. I don't believe the tracks will fit with 26 inch tires.

You have to make smaller pivoting turns in the denser types of snow. Sharp turns will cause you to bottom out. Part of the learning curve. There is a limit to the depth of snow you can move freely in and for my argo 9" is getting close to the limit without tracks. Be mindful of how musch snow is at the side of the tires and how the machine pushes that as it turns.

That is what I originally thought. My machine was factory tracked with the rubber camoplast style tracks. So when I bought my adairs I set it up so I could switch between the two different style tracks between winter and summer. After using the adairs in snow I realized I didn't need both and sold the rubber tracks. the rubber ones had better floatation but used a lot more HP, but I didn't get stuck with adairs like I was expecting.
Here is a video of a ride Amphibious drew, JPSwift1 and myself went on with the MAX IV with Adair tracks on 12/22/12. There was between 12"-18" of fresh snow and the machine just rolled it in front like a snowplow.
