  • Max 2 chain lenghts

anyone know the number of pins for the chains in a Max2. my rear chains are so worn I cant adjust them anymore.
I tried to take the rear chains off my 2006 but they don't seem to fit on the sprockets of the 99 max2. I though that they would be the same chain but after looking at them one is O-ring chain off the newer max and it doesn't sit over the teeth on the sprockets. the sprockets look like they are in good shape so I don't understand what the difference can be.

The Oring chain is # 520 and has narrower rollers than the # 50 in the older rig. Both use 102 pins for all wheel chains.

Thanks for the clarification. So I need to replace it with #50 chain? or can I use #530 chain. from what I have read on the website here they are the same thing.

#50 and #530 use the same sprocket. #530 O-ring is wider overall than #50, just the same inside measurement. You have to be careful about chain to chain clearances, that is why R.I. went to #520 for the axle-axle chains. You may be able to use 530 non-O-ring, without the o-rings it may be narrow enough????

#530 has larger pins, and the masters do not interchange with #50. I think the bigger pins give it the higher strength.

Buggyman is correct on the chain clearance off the center sprockets. The 530 also doesn't fit into the stock sllide blocks on the tensioners. I would use a good #50 and maintain it well, it will last for years. I like tsubaki rs50 or diamond if I can find it.

Thanks for the info on the chains everyone and I think I will go with the #50 chain. I found some but it seems expensive at 48$ for a 10ft box and the diamond and Tsubuki was around 60+ for 10ft. are these normal prices? seems most places don't have the #50 chain in stock only the 530 and o-ring types.

on the chain breakers do they also work to press the pins back in when repairing chains? Cant seem to find any info on these.

Tsubaki Roller Chain RS50 1 Single Strand 10' | eBay

There are cheaper sources out there, just keep looking.
Most chain breakers just push the pin out. The rivet tool is a separate tool. Most people just use the clip style masters and don't bother to fight the rivet tool in the tight space inside a tub.

I found some chains from a Harley shop nearby at a fairly good price they are made by Dayton, a Chinese company I think. the guy said they are good chains and are rated at 7190 tensile. I will let you guys know if they stretch like a rubber band or if they hold up well. I have a bad habit of driving my Max like a stolen car so it wont take long to find out if they are junk or not.

finally got some time on the new chains and so far they are holding up well. I have about 10 hours on them and they really haven't stretched yet enough to adjust the tensioners. hopefully the picture works it shows the difference in length from the new to the old chain.
