  • My max will not turn! Need help

Just bought a max 2, it was operating fine but now it will not turn right or left, has a hard time going into revers and when it is in reverse it doesn't go fast at all and sounds awful. What could be wrong?? I am a complete new comer! Please help, thanks in advance.

How to rebuild your Borg Warner Skid Steer T20 transmission from start to finish. This article has over 100 pictures and detailed instructions for rebuilding the tranny in your 6x6 amphibious atv

Sounds like you either are not pulling hard enough on the sticks, or your trans needs to be adjusted. A quick check to see if this is a simple adjustment issue will be to tighten the top plunger bolts on the T-20 one turn each. If this shows an improvement, then follow the full adjustment procedure and you will be back in business. If not, you are probably looking at a rebuild.

I know there is an article on adjustment on here somewhere, but I am having some trouble finding it while using my phone. search for "T-20 Adjustment" and start reading up.

Also, please only post once looking for info. This is a relatively small forum and while most all questions will get a reply, It may take a while depending upon who is online at any given time

Ok thanks alot, I jacked it up and it's not the transmission, the sprocket on the right side isn't turning, so if course neither is the chain. However, the power chain from the transmission is. So I'm guessing that something must have broken on that sprocket. What could be wrong?

Which sprocket on the right isn't turning? Guessing an older machine with non splined axles??? break it down for us... from the trans, a chain runs to the jackshaft. from there another goes to the center axle. then 2 more chains run to the front and rear axles. what is turning and what isn't? I would think you probably have a broken axle bolt..... these are what attach the sprocket to the axle. sometimes they can break and both ends stay in the sprocket tube so it looks like nothing is wrong.

There doesn't seem to be a bolt connecting the sprocket to the axle. I think the actual round piece that fits over the axle is broken. I have attached a picture, the red arrow points towards the sprocket that isn't turning, the blue arrow points towards the sprocket that is turning, it runs directly to the transmission.

That is your jackshaft, and both sprockets are welded to a tube that rides on a (3/4" I believe) solid shaft.
If that is broken, the shaft will come out through a hole towards the center of the machine into the battery compartment.

Find your serial # and call Recreatives Contact Us - Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511 I'm sure they can fix you up.
Or you could have a local machine shop make you a new one. The steel tube for the sprockets to weld to is much bigger dia. on the newer ones (yours looks to be an early model) making it much stronger.
