  • Popped drive chain stuck in woods!

So my idiot friend was driving my beloved Max 2 and the main drive chain popped. I took the chain back to my house, grinded out the broke link and have a new master link ready to install.

The issue is that I cannot for the life of me get the chain links close enough to install the new connector link. It's like a 1/4" away from going in. My question is: do I need to adjust the connecting sprocket tube? These bolts are super hard to get to and tight as a freshmen prom date.

Any tips, tricks or secrets to get this chain close enough to install the new master link??

    Thanks!

YES, you will have to move the jackshaft closer to the trans for it to fit again. Make sure to keep the jackshaft level and parallel. The easiest way to do that is to count the turns on your adjusting bolts....if you loosen one 3 turns, then loosen the other one the same. When tightening, do the same.

I suspect it is time for you to invest in new chains.

The jackshaft adjustment is very easy and takes no time at all, there is a how-to video on this site showing the process.

Got her up and running! Adjusted the jackshaft to allow for the links to align and then tightened in align with the other side.

        Thanks for the advice!

Gee Sarge, I thought I had the only idiot friend that tears stuff up! Another thing that might help you is Tractor Supply has a deal that grabs the loose ends of the 2 chains and pulls them together. I use mine all the time, it's like having a third hand.

Grind a radius the size of the #50 chain pins, about a 1/4" from the end of a set of needle nose vise grips.
The trouble with retirement is.... I never get a day off !!!!
