I just purchased a 1999 Max 4 where is the best place to get drive chains and axle bearings from?

  • #2
Get the bearings from the guys at Buffalo Bearing. They're great people to deal with, and many folks here on the site, including myself order parts through them. They do sprockets, bearings, belts, and even drive chain. Tell them you're with 6X6World and they'll give you great prices. (716) 874-1720.

Also, try ebay for chain. Every now and then there are some really great deals on 50 chain. Here's a super good deal on some good quality, name brand Peer chain (10' section) for less than $25 with free shipping.

Where is the origin of Peer Chain, China? I've found a lot of English sounding names of 50-2R chain are made in China, and just marketed with American branding. If you want American chain your going to pay a lot more than $25 a ten foot role. At least, that is what I've discovered.

I've paid even less than $25 for 10 feet of US brand Diamond chain on ebay. Price doesn't matter on ebay......sometimes there's just good deals on there. If there was no name chain for $30/foot at a retail store then I'm sure it would be junky Chinese stuff. Recreatives uses Peer bearings from the factory and I've used Peer chain on my Hustler 980 BIGFOOT and it has help up extremely well. Peer used to be made in the US, but I'm not sure what the origin of it is now.

I think you boys are talkin 2 different pieces here, rc50x2 is more expensive than rc50.
          Both correct? Perhaps.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.

#50-2R, is riveted double standard roller chain. 50= pitch 5/8, 2=strands, and R= riveted, an H is on the end it means Heavy. As in 50-2RH. And there are lots more variations on the descriptions, depending on the vendor. I've been reading about it all day, including the standards (ANSI, ISO, and others). You would be surprised how many variations there are in #50-2R chain. In terms of strength, and wear ability. I'm no expert, but I do my due diligence. Peer chain is manufactured in Taiwan.

This Peer chain is very good chain. I've been running it on my Hustler 980 BIGFOOT since I rebuilt it 5 years ago and I haven't had any issues with it at all.
