  • Max Outer Bear Flanges

Well, a week into the teardown of the 99 Max IV. I am learning real fast. Lots of great info on this site. I swear in one of my "shotgun" searches, reading a lot about a lot of random information I saw something about making outer bearing flanges. Drilling the three hole plate to four hole. Buying something off the shelf and modifying, I have not been able to locate it again. Need to save money anywhere I can. Any help would be appreciated. Thx

MaxIV 62mm and 72mm bearing flanges

    Hey CnD,

These are what I used for my MaxIV 62/72mm flanges and then drill 2 additional holes shown in the before and after pics.
I use my handy/dandy HFT transfer punch set to center punch the holes in the right spot.

    HLUSA site below:

    Before&After pic of flanges.

They were a great buy and cheap($$) enough that I replace them rather than reuse them.
I replaced some Jerk fittings with 45º and 90º fittings.
They have both the "Non-relube" and "Relube" flanges

      PC,
Thank You! That was exactly what I was trying to find. Did you order those direct or what type of source did you get those through? Thanks again!

I just bought some of those from RI and they came in with holes drilled in them just like your pictures :P they were pretty cheap and it saved me a bit of time drilling.

No Hi-Light USA, Inc is the manufacturer, call them and they will set you up with a distributor near you, mine was 60 miles away(cheaper shipping).
I paid 5$ even for the 72mm flange set and $4.30 for the 62mm set.
I also bought a set of each from RI at the same time, the 72mm set was $13.40, and the 62mm set was the same price.
So for $26.80 I got four sets of flanges from RI.
For $47.20 I got ten sets from Hi-Light.

              Money talks, s#& walks.
Be sure to order the flange with the zerk fitting also.
One zerk, one non-zerk flange per bearing, I grease the inners also.

BTW... Harbor Freight has their 50pc Zerk fitting assortment on sale for $5.99 right now.

PC, sorry to bug you. The 62, I assume this is for the inner bearing. Did you cut it to make it flater? My inners are more rectange shape. Sorry still learning. Did finally get all 6 axles out today. "Holy smokes" is all I can say. Thx again and thanks for the tip on HFT grease fittings, stopping by this wk to pick those up.

Yes I trim the lower radius flush with the frame, with a HF 14" metal cut off saw.
I scribe one and then cut then all.
I keep one set of old flanges to use as a template for cutting and for transfer punching the two additional holes.

I will look for a pic when I get home.

PC, thanks for that tid-bit. So looking at the Hi-light USA sheet I need (6) of each 62MSZP, 62MSZPG, 72MSZP, 72MSZPG. That would give me 6 sets of inner and 6 sets of outer. That sound right. Thank you again for the help. I think I understand, just wanted to double check. THX

Sounds right, did they find a distributor near you?
I ordered a few extra flanges, bearings and 3/8" carriage bolts, I keep them with me in the tool box, all cut and ready to install.
                      later...ed

Ed, High-Light very responsive, called one of the distributors they gave me, waiting for a call back. "HL" said they would drop ship it straight to me. So hopefully someone will take the order. I am Excited to take this one on. I know I can save some $. Thanks, ps Saw a post you had on chains, just measured the old ones and you put that in context. Will use that info soon. Need to replace all those as well, but now understand what and how much I need. Thanks
