  • Newer Max IV Tub on Older Max IV

Would a current production run Max IV lower tub work as a replacement for my 1992 Max IV

    Don't slam me too hard...LOL

Yes, but what's wrong with the one you have. Plastic welding patches in a tub isn't really that hard.

Well, it has been repaired in three places. One of those being fairly thin. I've never plastic welded before and know nothing about it. Just thought it may be easier to replace the tub and never worry about a leak. Is there a tutorial somewhere on plastic welding? I just got the machine over the weekend and haven't really had a chance to go through it yet because of all the snow we have here now.

if you order a new lower tubb make sure you get the correct hole size for bearings
the older one has a smaller bearing hole..

Probably the 62mm. YouTube plastic welding and watch a few videos. A cheap kit can be purchased at harbor freight, or just use some scrap hdpe and a soldering iron. I like the gun shaped one with a light bulb. You basically heat the plastic to melting while melting in some filler rod to fill the gaps. It took me an hour to patch one large hole by the exhaust of a max II. It was not normal shaped or easy to get too, but much faster than tearing down a machine and putting it in a new tub. I think my fastest tear down was an Attex I did in less than 4 hours, and it was in no way going to go back together. I cut several axles out so I could press the sprockets off.

There is some guides as to properly patching hdpe on the how to section of the home page as well. You mentioned a thin spot. You can heat up the thin spot and another piece of hdpe to just melting and press them together. When it cools, it becomes one piece.
