  • Heated Throttle Cable Wiring

Ok, I admit I'm no genius or anything close to it, but when it comes to electricity and wiring I'm like a skydiver without a parachute. I need somebody to tell me how to wire my new heated throttle cable in my MaxIV. I've got the cable with the red and black wires coming out the end that has a plug on it and there is the fuse with the two red wires coming out of it.
The long red wire coming out the end of the cable is run back up front (from where the exit out of the cable) and goes to what, to the lighted switch or to one of the fuse wires or someplace else? The black wire coming out of the cable end is short but I'm assuming this is a ground wire? Now where does the power come from the battery? I also had a black wire that is about 6 inches long that came with the heated throttle kit and I have no idea where that goes. The HTCable does not have any type of wiring diagram and RI didn't know if they would be able to get me anything since a lot of the info. went away with the other owner. I just need some sort of wiring diagrams or a real good video that isn't hard to understand, that shows how everything ties together including the fuse, the switch and anything else I need to see. Remember I'm only in 2nd grade electrical school and the teacher likes to have me grab both ends of the wire under power!!! OUCH.

If you will look in the manuals section of this site, there is an installation manual for the heated throttle cable: Max 6x6 Manuals

If you read through it, it tells you exactly how to wire everything and even provides a wiring diagram at the end.

I have no white female housing as described in the directions. Any ideas on what they are talking about?

              ANTI-FREEZE here I come!

Ok, finally decided to NOT use the heated throttle cable on my MaxIV. I had an electrician over and he looked at the directions I had from here and he said the directions I had, wouldn't work. He said he could rig it up but then asked, "do you really need it"? I PM'd a lot of guys and we pretty much agreed that anti freeze or Iso down the cable works just fine. Soooo, thats what I did. Crossing the fingers hoping that this works in the really cold.
I must say that I was a little offended by something that was said to me in a post saying, "if you just read the directions, it will work fine". Let me say this, (not everything works just as a set of directions says) especially on these older machines. Ahh yea, I did read it (along with a electrician) over and over, and we were not able to make it work based on those directions, and this is a new cable from RI. They sent me a new HTCable but, it did not have any directions about ways to install it. That's why in most cases this site is awesome, you can pretty much find everything you need and lots of people to help you. But, not everything works like some ink on paper says and not being completely an idiot I do give it my best and try hard. I have had that machine apart from top to bottom and done EVERYTHING myself with lots of "holy crap" what did I get myself into and I'm sure more to come, But I did it, and am pretty proud of myself. Ok, enough patting myself on the back.
And, finally I took the springs off of the laterals and I am driving it that way. I LOVE IT!!! Personally I would recommend everybody, take the springs off the lats and try it once.

Hey Foxspoiler, good to hear from you. Sounds like you've had a round of bad luck just like me. I just got out of the hospital. They thought I might of had a heart attack, but in the long run after all the testing it came back O.K. They are still working on finding out why I have all the chest pain. They think it's from a previous surgery that was quite intensive. I had what they call Nissan Fundoplication and that stops all acid reflux. BUT… now they think a stitch may of come loose and be causing all sorts of problems. I may have to go to the Mayo clinic and get a test done that requires major surgery where they cut into my throat and put a scope down to see the outside of the surgery site. Not fun. Oh well thats life. I am going to be a grandpa again. Can't wait. I have not had much of a chance to ride this winter due to all the cold and not heated throttle cable, so as you have seen I did the Anti Freeze in the new cable to see how that works. I removed the springs that were attached to the laterals and just love it. I don't think I will ever keep the springs on again. I hope we can get a ride going this summer, I have a few nice places to go riding and really want another wheeler with when I go to those spots. Lets talk and get together at least for coffee, soon my friend.

I'd like to see the pics too. I got a Buffalo and the heated throttle cable, but there is no switch? I got a heated throttle cable kit for my Max from RI about two years ago and that came with a switch.
