  • 1997 max 2

Bought a 97 max 2 that evidently was not serviced. Replaced 2 chain tensioners on rear, need to replace front two next and ordering new chains. Use mostly for ice fishing so my GOAL is to build the best ice fishing machine possible. I have some play in a couple bearings so I am going to replace them also. So here are my ideas I would appreceate all suggestions to this project.
    Rep

1 replace all bearings would need sizes to order from bearing supply house.
2 replace front chain tensioner s and replace all chains.
3 replace 6 tires to 21x11x8 to accomadate true tracks
    4 axel extentions for tracks.
    5 true tracs'
6 upgrade motor to 23 hp vanguard hopefully drop in conversion.
    7 use existing clutch
8 purchase new 23 hp exhaust manafold and new muffler.
9 purchase cab enclosure and windshield.
sorry for long post but want to do it right the first time thanks for your help and suggestions.

gman, by the time you are done you will have a brand new, dependable machine.lots of info on here about tracks. just check as to which tracks are best for ice if that is your primary use.my 2001 max 2 is still going strong. maintenance is the key. good luck. share pictures of the build if possible. johnboy va.

Where in up state N.Y. I am in massena. I have a max 2 as well. Same conditions. I run Adair tracks.and pull a lot of gear! I have not been stuck yet. ice fishing or hunting! I would not even attempt half the places i go now without the Adairs.

gman, don't forget the back chain tensioners also while you have the motor out and easy access. johnboy va.

Unfortunately I already replaced the rear a week after I got it. Was a pain to do. I think I got the hardest one done I used the aftermarket ones from richards. Also took out t20 and readjusted to specs and reinstalled. Think those two look like tthe hardest to work on. Lol

At this point in time, I view the trutracks as a budget level track. I don't think they rob as much power as the rubber tracks, but they don't give as much flotation or traction either. They are not as suited for mud as adairs, and but probably provide a bit more floatation in snow. If you can find a good set of the trutracks used on the cheap, it would be a good option, but I think paying new prices, there are better options.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!
