Just got off the phone with buffalo bearings. Great people! I did have to buy the collars separate. They were very cheap. Soon as it warms up, the fun begins. Must be ready for the Ohio races! In my case it is the Ohio trail ride!

Can anyone tell me what the little metal nub is on the outside of the 62mm bearing. This nub seems to keep the two flanges from coming together.

I'm gonna guess here that you only ordered outer bearings. That bearing with the nub is generally for mounted bearings in the cast iron flange. If the bearings are the same width as your old ones, you could just grind that off, if they are thinner call Buffalo Bearings and tell them they've sent the wrong ones.

SA bearings are thinner bodied than UC bearings.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
      Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Thanks, I only have outer bearings. I didn't think this was right. I will call them tomorrow.

Should just pull right out. Just did it 12 times today. 6 inner and 6 outers. Had to grind(2) of them off could not pull them out. I got mine from Buffalo Bearing as well. Hope this helps.

Yep, just grab a pair of diagonal cutters and pull the nub out.

Well, all of the metal nubs came right out! 90 degree grease fittings are next. Was wondering, do I need to remove the tranny before I work the center axles? Also, the collars that came with the bearings, will they lock to the bearings after I insert the axle. They seem to just sit on the bearings. They do have a set screw and the punch hole. I will also be installing split ring locking collars inside and out. As far as the bushings go, how do you get the old ones out? Sorry about all the questions. This is my first attempt at changing my bearings.

Once you have the bearings and collars on the axles, they will lock like they are supposed to. The collars act like a cam against the axles so they won't lock until they are installed.

Mike might be in a modest mood and neglecting to point you to his excellent video of axle changes as a result. He shows how the collars come on and off and all other parts of the job. Well worth seeing a time or 5 before you start.
