  • Max IV axles

    Hi all. Got a couple of questions. Can anyone give me the dimensions of non splined max iv axles? I know they are 1.25 thick. Based on rough measurements from the back of the hub, the shaft appears to be 17 inches long. The measurement for the sprocket hole appears to be about 12 and 7/8ths to 13 inches from the back of the hub. Can anyone confirm these numbers or give me what the exact measurements are? Thanks.
    Pat

    I don't know the exact specs offhand, Pat, but I do know the ends of them are turned down to 1-1/16" where they insert into the inner bearings.

        Hey Pat, I uploaded a pic I had on my phone.

        It shows the dimensions of the axles that came out of my 1997 MaxIV, note that they do NOT have any turned down diameter on the end.
        I no longer use the sprocket/hubs with the bolt holes, I keyed all the axles, bought new sprockets and use split collars.
        I have 10+ of my old sprocket/hubs off the Max, that will be going to Pine Lake in June to be sold at the swap meet.

          Pat, I'm terribly sorry to mislead you, but the end of the NON splined axle is 1.25". The splined axle's end is 1-1/16". I was exhausted when I was reading and replying to this post yesterday.

              Hey Pat;
              I just measured one of my axles.
              The bolt center is 3.75" from the end and 13.25" from the inside of the flanges.

                Thank you for the info Plumbcrazy. I really appreciate you taking the time to measure the axles. I have a set that I pulled from an old Chapparell that are about an inch too long in shaft length and the hole is about 4 inches too short. I am going to have to redrill. How much are you asking for the axles? It is always good to keep some spares so i may definatly be intersted in a few. No worries at all Jeff. I figured you were talking about the splined axles because the bearing ids are 1.25 all around for my year. Thanks again guys for the input.
