  • Fixing Max IX tub crack

after doing some rough riding, I discovered I crack my tub near my middle axel on the bottom. After some research I found the best way to fix it was to use plastic from A coffee container or milk jug. I heated the area with a heat gun then put the plastic over the crack and heated and melted it together. I will fill the tub with water and see if it leaks wish me luck.

They sell a plastic welder at Harbor Freight that works well on these things and its pretty cheap.

A plastic welder set is a tool I am going to add to my collection soon. Cracks happen.

the hardest part about repairing the tubs on our max is the material is high-strength polyurethane. most of the materials for plastic repair will not bond on to it so it becomes necessary to use the same material and melted into itself.

I got a truck bed liner from my brother in law. I have used it to fix a crack at my exhaust hole on my maxll. It worked very well. And I have a lot left over just in case. Matching the lower tub perfect.

Aside from the very early ABS-bodied Max II machines, the bodies are all high-density polyethylene. It's a very common plastic, and HDPE rod is readily available to use as a repair material. There are also alternative sources. Any plastic with the "#2" recycling code is HDPE, so there are dozens of colors out there available to us in a pinch.

I was thinking of taking a bed liner in making a skid plate for underneath.

While bed liner is good tough stuff, you have to be careful that it's roughness doesn't get in the way of letting the skid plate do what it was meant to do "skid over stuff" This is especially the case with low ground clearance 6x6 and 8x8s.

I used part of my bed liner to make a hard top for my maxll. It worked very good for this purpose. I have a front and rear wind shield. I am currently working on soft doors. When I get them done my cab will be fully enclosed for next winter.

that is a very good point about clearance under my max 4. That is a good idea to make a Top out of a bed liner.
