  • Chains for Max IV

I am planning ahead and know that my chains will need replacing in the next year.

I read a lot of posts and I think I have the info right but I am missing an important piece, how much chain do I need for a Max IV to do the drive chains and the transmission ones?

I plan on getting 530 Oring chain which is what appears to be on there now, the chain says Japan and 530 and it looks like OS?

Can you tell me how many links I need for each chains? Not sure if front and backs are the same and I know the transmission ones are shorter.

    Thank you very much!
    Chris

2 each 52 pins for transmission ( or one 104 and cut) 2each 112 pins for rear Axle to center. 2 each 116 for fronts I've been buying the Oring chain from mfg supply.

The factory uses Japanese Tsubaki Omega 530 o-ring chain. Other companies also make quality chain.
Cheap chinese chain won't last long.

        Thank yuo for the info.

I am a little confused, so is all 530 chain the same size for I think it's pitch?

And also for the pins, so does that mean 2 pins is a link, it seems that all the chains are sold by links? Sorry if I am missing the obvious here

        Thanks

Yes. All 530 chain is the same pitch and width.

A link will have a pin on each end as you say. The last two at the end will have the holes, but no pins because that's where the master link will go. So if you draw a 5 link chain, you will see that it has 4 pins and two holes on the end for the master link.

However it is that chain is sold, the number posted here is what you need for a Max IV. It fit right in on mine.

Mark... (or anyone else) Can you please share your exerience with MFGSupply chain? I note their 530 o-ring chain is 9,000+tensile strength, same as Tsubaki Omega chain, but at about half the price. Thanks.
