  • got a RIM 6x6 and dont know much about it... please help!

hi, I got a RIM the other day, I think it looks like a max iv. im not sure about it. it has a chaparral 480 on it, is that stock? its a 4 seater (2 benches). I have no clue on what year it is. I think it has a T-20 trans. also came with a plow, which the last owner said it was original to it. any one have a wiring diagram for one? any help would be very appreciated! thanks!

Please teach me... the RIM is what, Recreatives Industries Max?
The RIM eventually became the Max IV?
The RIM (Max IV) came out before the Mav II?
Any other bits of history? Thanks.

            Here's what I think I know, though someone may say "You Idiot";

Recreation Industrial Military (it's uses and intended markets).
Most came with the Chap. 500 though the Tecumseh was orderable.
The Rim became the IV as mentioned above by Hydromike.
            The II was first.
All RIM's have brown lower bodies originally.

Ok, I'm ready for the spanking.

The RIM was designed by Gerber and a few other people in a garage, molds and all. They had a contract with Max to build them for a royalty. A few months before the contract was up, Sid used the plans to create the Max IV, just enough differently that he wouldn't be sued. So the Max IV is a facelifted RIM in a way. (I think that's right).

Check the RI NY phone number at Mudd-Ox, he would know if there are any left in print. You could also try Amazon authors name was Sid Wallach.

that's awesome! and I have many extra parts! I have 3 coils for the chap 500, belts (nos), extra head light, it came with a extra motor but its NOT a chap 480. but the carbs are identical to the 480. I also have a extra clutch.
I need: tires, throttle cable, choke switch, wiring diagram

                      thanks!

Beautiful machine. Is that second lever with the handbrake a manual lift for the plow or is it a split shift for the t20?

It's a handbrake that actuates two calipers associated with two disc brakes on a jackshaft that was driven by the center axles. Not a bad setup, but the discs basically "float" on the shaft with only a bushing. They can be a bit noisy at speed, but replacing the bushings with bearings and locking them laterally would do wonders toward eliminating it.

thanks! and I agree with hydromike, there are 3 levers besides the steer levers. one is a parking break, shifter, and the last one is for the plow.
