  • kohler/kawasaki reliability

I am buying a new IV. can choose between the ko 23 and the ka 29(kawasaki is +2G+). is there much difference in reliability? is there much difference in resale price.

will i see any difference with the 29 over the 23? do i need it? what would i do with it(the 6hp)? i'm a bit past car jumping(this is birthday present for my 71st).

i think either will do everything i want(run up and down a 30% 200 foot long hill) so it comes down to things like reliability and resale.

i think the kohler is the 23hp or so, and the kawasaki is the 29 efi

    Max IV-23hp. or 29 efi?

There was a big differenc between the 23 kohler and the 25 kohler when RI offered them both.
The 25 and now the 29 have a higher speed clutch.
The 29 is EFI-no choke to freeze.-ask people if they have ever done that.

Resale? the 29 is RI's top selling machine. Very seldom do you ever hear a guy say-'I wish i had bought the smaller motor" Happy Riding

I agree with philipatmaxfour fuel injection and water cooling are going to be more reliable. Once you try the max you may decide to take out into the rough and more power is always helpful in most situations.

        Mystery,

Have you considered any of the 8 wheeled Argo models? I'm a Max man myself but I would imagine that the longer wheelbase would be better for constant hill climbing.

their website has no info, and they have recently churned the daylites out of their dealer network. perfect way to kill a product during a recession. if you want an argo, wait 6 months for the crater.

A $6000 used Response would be the best hill climber/descender. Low range, he could crawl downhill with no hands on the controls. But it sounds like he wants a Max.. write Argo and tell them what you think about their restructuring, and then give Recreatives some business.

No idea what pitchpole is, but I am 70, have the 950T, magic uphill and down. After you get the hang of it. Check MAX ATV Australia for my reasons for getting the Max. At the time had to bite the bullet and import it to Australia myself, sight unseen. We do have Argo dealers here.

Should also have mentioned for us older guys who like to descend a bit slower, use the pressure pak belt stick on the drive belt. Then you can leave the motor at idle going down and the belt will still brake you. My belt has done over 350 hrs so it does no harm.

                      Belt Stick

I may have confused with wording. I meant stick as in sticky, not as in rod As you can see in the photo there is a CVT tranny on the can. They call it belt grip, makes more sense.
