I have a chance to buy a Max IV. Has a 20hp honda, new chains and bearings in 07. Price is 5000. What I want to find out is: when did RI change from the rim to the max? and when did the lights change from round to square? Thanks gregg2007

The change from the round to the rectangular headlights on the Max IV was around 2000 I believe. As for the change from being called the "RIM" (recreation, industrial, military) to the "Max IV," I'm not really sure. I know that in 1980 or 1981 Recreatives was selling them under the Max IV name, and in 1976 it was called the RIM, so somewhere in that range the change came about.

I'm guessing the RIM production ended in the very early 70s, probably 1971. I have some Attex dealer literature from 1972 that refers to the (legendary) Attex model 750 as the "old RIM". I dont' think the 750 ever went into production, but the Max IV probably got it's start shortly after the RIM went out.

Hey Don, Hydromike and I were talking about the Attex 750......was there ever a yellow 750 actually built or was it just a retouched picture that was soley for the brochures. I guess there are a lot of missing pieces to the puzzle of the RIM story.

I've heard that Attex may have used an empty hulk for the pics in the brochure- just a RIM body painted yellow with some stickers pasted on (the pictured machine doesn't have the RIM logo molded into the front, but that could be faked). I'm not sure, but if anyone comes up with a real, live Attex 750, I'll buy it.
