  • Max ii help please

    Hi Guys
I am trying to remove the front left axle, and cant seem to get the bearing lock ring off the outside bearing, I have removed the grub screw, and knocked ot both ways but no sign of moving, I have a Max II 2001 splinded shafts, the inside one came lose easy, but this one is not moving, I do after remove this to get my bent shaft out, seen Mikes video and seemed very easy, any ideas?

remember "righty tighty lefty loosey". I had 2 axles that had the bearing race spin on the axle. ended up cutting the closest edge of the lock colar to the bearing with an angle grinder. had to unbolt everything so the axle bearing would just slip through the body. it gave me enough room to grind the colar loose.

If it's being a real bugger for you, you can just unbolt the three-bolt bearing flange on the body and take the whole axle out that way. The flange, the bearing and the axle will come out as one unit and you can deal with the locking collar on the shop bench versus in the machine.

Thanks for replying, I now have a problem with the brake disc, grub screw rounded off and could not drill it, looks like I will need to cut it off,:confused are the disc a standard part or just a max part? also will be looking for bearings

I believe the splined brake discs are a part unique to the Max machines. You can try to get the set screw out using an E-Z out or a left handed drill bit. ( I don't know what the equivalent of an EZ-out is called in the UK... you lot probably have an odd one though. )

Bearings can be had in tons of places. I'd PM member RodP or someone else in the UK to find a good supplier over there near you folks.
