Ramps
If you do decide to use ramps, I would definitly recomend ratchet strapping them to the truck so there is no way they can kick out. From my experience, a 2" x 12" x 12' needs some support in the center. I put a jack stand under the middle of the board set about an inch below the board. This way if the board bows too much the stand will stop it. You don't want the stand touching the board because you want weight on both ends of the board to keep it from moving around. This was a temporary set up untill I can by some arched aluminum ramps or make something better.
I like the flat bed tow truck idea. After buying boards and ramp ends the cost difference may be worth it. Especially if this will be your first time driving a Max.
I have seen other board members have some hairy moments loading machines. Lets just say I would be mad too if my max broke my rear window on my truck! I hear they don't get along with roller fairleads!
