  • Leaking through bearings.

As a new owner of a max 4 I took my used max in the water and once the wheels got submerged , water started to seep in through the bearings. I would l Iike to find a source for some new bearings for my max , maybe even new bearing holders and also the 3 m tape. I wanna get this max sealed up and stop the leaks.

I went through Buffalo Bearings 1-800-669-8019 last time I called them.

Reviewing mikes video I could either be leaking through the bearing flanges and or the bearings themselves.Just best to replace the flanges and outside bearings to make sure . However I did find bearings on ebay that most likely work . But need to order the bearing flanges . Thanks guys.cled

Cled, make sure you get the triple sealed bearings. They are typically designated "R3" at the end of the part number.

Well i have removed my rear right axle to replace a the inner axle drive bearing on the passenger side , My 97 max 4 has solid non- splined axles and the bearing on the inside axel has the clam shell bearing holder and the inside bearing OD has a smaller OD than the outside axle bearing . The inside axle bearing race number is HC 206-20 I think its equally important that this one also be tripled sealed since water does enter the tub . Also there are no zerks, grease fittings where by to add grease to it on my inside drive bearing . This also is a clam shell holder design . So if any one has a part number for this bearing , please share . As for my outer bearing i have believed to find the correct part number for replacement and that that is HC207-20R3 New WJB INSERT. The outside bearing that i removed says HC-207-20 china SST. , thanks cled

Sound as if you've answered your own question, as far as the flangette ask for the 62 mm with grease fitting and the amount of bolt holes on the flange, 3 or 4.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
              Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Does that mean the replacement bearings I got at 6x6parts.com are not the preferred triple sealed? They say HC207-20 with no R3. Bummer.

I dont always run the triple sealed. I've never had an issue as long as they are kept greased. I grease each machine after every big ride.

They don't always have that ending designation on them depending on the brand.

I asked Richard if the ones he sells were triple sealed, he said "No we only sell original style bearings"

I got my bearings from Buffalo Bearings, don't know if they are triple sealed or not but this weekend my MaxII went swimming for the first time since restored. Total time swimming was over an hour had maybe 1/2 cup of water, if that, in tub

Is there any rubber gasket that needs replacing? I just bought one yesterday.

3M strip caulk is the prefered sealant for the bearing flanges to the tub. You can also use right stuff sealant.

I also just bought one. Is it recommended to just change out the bearings? What else should I look for in this machine? Ser # 802#, Tecumseh OH160. It cranks up and runs ok, put heet and stabil in it and let it idle for about 20 minutes today. I live in a city and only have pavement, waiting for some snow to fall I guess. Are they 1" inner and outer bearings 6x6 parts seems to have 4 different sizes for the MaxII.
