  • High pitched squeal

I'm looking for help tracking down this noise my max 2 makes. It is a high pitched squeal and can be heard pretty clearly off and on between 1min 30 secs and 3 mins in this video https://youtu.be/d27AUx3xvAo
I hear this intermittently weather I'm in gear or not, stationary or moving, on solid ground or swimming. I'm thinking perhaps belt noise but my belt is good and clutches seem ok. My machine runs well and I have no other cause for concern but it's just bothering me that I'm missing something maintenance related. Any help is appreciated-Rob

Sounds like belt noise to me. The belt can look good and not be worn but still get glazed and hardened as rubber tends to do over time. I'd would change it and clean your clutches at the same time. Good luck.
What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.

      Thanks tbone9,
I Will order a new belt and use the old one as a trail spare.
I did a quick search on the forum and did not find much about cleaning the clutches. I assume it's not as easy as cleaning the belt contact areas, will I be removing them from the engine and transmission to do this?

Good question. I, too, would like to know how to clean the clutches. Should each be removed? Should each be taken apart? Can they be effectively cleaned mounted in their respective places on the machine?
Whats a good cleaner product? I've heard people use Scotch-Brite pads as a buffer, though. But this is all I know.

I was told by Roy that is at Quality Drive Systems to clean the sheaves of the drive clutch with 120 grit paper then brake clean surfaces. Also sand sides of belt till the dull black color comes back. I listened to your video and it sounds like typical belt noise. Very common at low speed.

Mine is doing the exact same thing...and I am quite happy to hear everyone say its just belt noise!!

              Mine has belt noise sometimes.
120 grit paper and brake cleaner. The primary clutch ought to be an easy clean, but how does one clean the secondsry? Its closed.

I cheat made a dummy shaft to hold the secondary I put in the drill press on a mild speed and just slide sand paper inan out until clutch is clean an shiny again

Thanks for the tip! So if I remove the driven clutch and resurface it on my drill press then I could resurface the drive clutch on the engine at idle? I'm going to take a brief finger inventory before and after lol.
This might be an opportunity to change to a red spring. I have been thinking about doing that since I got my max2.

I've cleaned up many a drive clutch on the motor with it runnin', it can hurt ya and fast. if the throttle is bumped and it engages it's all over but the pain and 911 call.

I've gotta ask, is that the origin of your user name?
