  • Axle lenght

finally got around to breaking down 98 max IV...noticed 3 axles are turned down with different type of bearing (set screw in collar), the other 3 axles are standard as well as bearings...wondering if this is indication of some odd modification or convenience of previous owner? Rode pretty good before tear down...just curious

There were several different inner bearings for Max IV's over the years. Most likely the axles with the larger inner bearings were replacement axles. They probably either bent them or had the sprockets frozen on and had to cut out the originals.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

I turn the inner ends down to get the inner bearings with beaver inner race and end bolt to secure axle. The turned ends were the first upgrade with splined axles. One piece sprockets and snapring retainers were next. I was told that the inner bearing was changed because of breakage of the inner race with the big tires. I have have seen a lot of inner failures of this type. The uc206-17 insert fits into the flanges that are in it now. If they arnt greasable that is a good upgrade also.
