  • Drive train locked

I was driving the Max IV around the house yesterday and I got stuck on a slight incline in the snow, all tires spinning. Put it in reverse and it was like it was locked solid, tires would not spin and the CVT belt would squeal. Tried to reverse a couple of times and finally broke free. It did this a while back, in fwd went to turn on the dirt from a stop and the CVT just squealed. Didn't think much about it, thought it had to much traction in the dirt and rock.
Thought I would run it by the experts before I tore it apart.
I do have the split shift mod, it has a new belt.
    Any ideas?

First off, are all chains tensioned properly?

2nd, did you try one side at a time?

Without loose debris inside the t-20, i doubt it is the problem. I suppose bad needle bearings would count as debris though.

I had replaced all the chains earlier and had about an hour on them, then tensioned them right before this happened.
I did not try one at a time.
I was planning on overhauling the T-20 and removing the axles and bearings, cleaning and checking for wear or damage before the trip north.

Thanks for your quick reply buggyman.

Was thinking internal issues originally though now I'm leaning towards loose belt or driven clutch faces glazed. Seen many IV's with squealing belts, if you dug ruts in the snow it would be like trying to climb a log or curb from an abutted standstill to overcome the 6 holes you've dug.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
        Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Went back and tensioned the chains again. The Primary chain from the t-20 to the rear axle had some slop in it.
Put around 3 hours on it without a hiccup, Never ran this quiet since I've had it. Got stuck in the snow, backed out without
          a problem.
The squealing was coming from the clutch, I'm thinking the chains caused it to lock up?
