when sterring the max am i supposed to onl partly pull one lever to steer unless stopped? what will and will not damage the tranny?

When you pull back one lever, that is basically putting that side of the transmission in neutral first and then applying the brake. So you will not hurt the tranny pulling either lever all the way back. At higher speeds you will want to only pull back slightly and at slower speeds you will need to pull back more. However you can jerk back on one lever at high speeds if you want but on hard ground you may flip the machine. If you were on ice or in the mud, it would just send you into a spin. Just don't do it until you are comfortable with the machine. But again, you don't have to worry about hurting the transmission.

Another tip I can add about driving.

Do not let off the gas when turning. Just keep the throttle steady and pull some pressure on the stick until it turns the amount you want it to turn. Do not just jerk it back, apply steady pressure.

Remember on decelleration the stearing is backwards unless you are pulling back enough to brake. When I am coming down from 35mph on my Max.. you really have to think about what you are doing on the controls. When I let off the throttle I can make a nice turn to the right by pulling the left stick a little (netural position, not braking). This takes awhile to master.

That's right because on decelleration the stearing is backwards.

I don't get much t20 stick time.. the last time I did, I discovered what downhill/decel steering was like. "Oh Jon, pull over, my brain is overloaded on these technical Haspin trails in your maxII, give me my argo back so I don't have to think so hard.

Still working on that one myself. I usually try to add enough throttle to engage the clutch. Then work the sticks or the emergency brake.

Another trick I found to to put the tranny in reverse and use the engine for a brake.

The max is alot easier to control going up a hill than down.

When descending a hill, "never start down a hill any faster than you want to be going at the bottom".

On something long and steep, I use my foot brake for speed control and the laterals for steering.

Never put both laterals in neutral at the same time. Make sure at least one side is driving or braking.

If you are out of control going down a hill, your better off letting the machine coast a little to gain control than to panic and try to stop the thing.

The engine braking on a Max is next to none. The new red spring on my Max did help though.
