Bad bearings?

Are these usable? Tough to see in the pic, but the black ring is separating from body of bearing, I can see in it with flashlight. They're 1 1/16 ID, double set screw type for maxIV inner...

You should be able to work with seal/shield back into place. The bearing itself is usable.

The black stamped tin is the shield that helps keep crud out of the seal inside. Pretty common to see a small gap between them and the bearing body. Use them

I talked to Greg at buffalo bearing, he also said they're good, just press back into place...but no, they're going back to Max/Mudd for my $105 back. Another lesson learned
