  • Replacing bearings under jackshaft.

    Hello,

Doing a bearing change, Max II. Can anyone help me - how do you get to the axles under the jackshafts? Need to loosen the sprockets to get the axle out.

    Would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Those are held in just like the other four. Depending on the year and whether you have solid or splined axles, the removal process is slightly different. You may have a bolt in the sprocket that has to be removed or a set screw and/or retaining clips. Once you have the sprocket free, you will need to remove the locking collars from the inner and outer bearings and then the axle can be removed. You should remove the chains from the sprockets on the center axles to give you move room and make it easier to remove.

Ok, get that bit, but my problem is physically getting to the axle - do I have to remove the jackshafts?

You do not have to remove the jackshafts. Any additional room would make it easier but it's not required.
