  • Max II Skid Plate

Does anyone out there know whether or not there is a skidplate for a Max II. I see pictures of Max IV's with skidplates yet on Recreatives site I see no mention of the availability of a skidplate for either model.Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Eldon, Yup I believe that all Max Ivs come with skid plates front and back. Most Max IIs do also except the !4 and 16 hp models. I think maybe they cancelled the 14 hp model with the hollow axles but they used to come without skid plates. If you call RI. I am sure they will send you skid plates but I don,t know the price. You will need an air riveter for all those 3/16 waterproof rivets. W. Philip cox

Only the Max IV has the front and rear skid plates. Max II has nothing available for the underbody. RI claims the lighter weight of the II and thicker material on the bottom does not need a skid plate. For the most part I agree as the body is very tough, but I sure love the full skid plate on the Argo vehicles. The full skid plate makes the vehicle just about indestructable and it will save you big time in the event something does make it through the first layer. My Argo distributor once told me of a guy who hit a large piece of angle iron hidden in the brush with his Avenger 8x8. It ripped the skid plate down the center but completely saved the vehicle. If that was a Max II you would be looking at a big expense to disassemble the entire vehicle plus the expensive body.
