Max II build

After assessing exactly what I have, I've decided to build my later parts Max instead of repairing my mostly complete older unit. Intend to get a good start this weekend getting her all tore down and starting to repair and clean up frame. Looks like somebody beat left center sprocket out. I'm gonna need a lot of education and advice along the way.

P.S. I did get an envelope full of goodies with newer unit.

This is the place to ask. Plenty of experts here. I learned a lot from a handful of people, and I expect to ask more questions once I get around to pulling my T20 later this summer. It gaining on 400 hours.

I hope so at this point I can't see past all the sanding and PB Blaster work.

I don't think I ever knew true joy until I spent the last 2 days cutting of bearings, lock rings, and pillow blocks with a Dremel. After 27 years these parts have basically bonded. I have 3 axles out and think I can get the 4th out tomorrow. The rear axles sprockets won't budge. I'm afraid I'm going to have to have one of my techs at work cut them off. Shame a flange wasn't cast on inside of sprocket so I I could try a puller on them.

plenty of fun when working on these machines LOL. When I tore mine apart it was a bear but once you get it together and take it for a ride there is no better feeling. You will find plenty of help on this site there are a lot of good people on here ready to help. Good luck and have fun.

Thank you, after getting this far I've decided I'm replacing every bearing, pillow block, spacer, and flange with new. Probably a couple rear axle sprockets too. One thing I know when I reassemble the anti-seize will be applied liberally.

Anti-seize is your friend.

No doubt about that. I've finally got front and middle axles off. Fought every bearing and collar, rear axles collars and bearings actually came off or move without cutting, but rear sprockets won't budge. Really don't want to cut of $75 sprockets so I'll see if one of my techs at work can get them off

If there is enough sleeve on the sprockets, take an air chisel and score it along with liberal amounts of penetrating oil. Worked like a charm on my hustler sprockets.

I'm at the same point. I just bought a Mexican (basket case) version of a Max 2 called a Drago 2. I spent the last week cleaning all of the parts. I live in Mexico so I have to save everything I can, nuts and bolts included. I've got a lot of hours on the wire wheel cleaning off rust. I'm only in it for $500 dollars so I think I can afford to do a complete restore. It'll be interesting to see your progress.

Try 2 large pipe wrenches. one on the sprocket tube inside the machine braced against the frame, and one outside the tub on the axle, which you jump up and down on. if you can get them to break free and spin independent of each other you can start working pb blaster in there and get them to slide. Ive tried everything and this is my go to method
