  • Rusted frame

I have a 1978 max Iv I'm restoring. The outer frame is rusted out at the bearing cages so I need to replace the outer c-Chanel on both sides. Has anyone ever done this?

can you just clean it up and weld a strip of strap steel all the way down the frame rail, re-drill holes. or is it rusted that bad.
I think Whipper still has a frame for a max four in Phoenix az

I had considered doing the strap steel but it's really rusted pretty bad. Almost rusted completely around the rear axle bearings.

How is your Max 4 coming along? I bought a 96 that water had sat in vor over 10 yrs. Measure frame. I cut outer frame out with plasma cutter and a saws all. I bought a sheet of 1/8 flat stock cut to my measurement. I took cut, flat stock to a welding shop. They bent it to C shape. I clamped the old frame with new frame marked and cut holes. I bolted all bearings and installed axles to make sure frame would align before welding.

I just discovered I'm going to be doing the same to the front right of mine.
