After having my drain plugs come out several times, I looked for a solution. I found some 3/4 inch freeze plugs at the auto parts. The problem is that you can't hold the plug to tighten it, unless you hold if from the inside. Not wanting to have to open the tub each time, I came up with a solution. Using a hacksaw or die grinder, cut a slot in the bolt. You can then hold the bolt with a screwdriver and tighten the nut as tight as needed. Same for removal.

I had thought about swaping the factory drain plugs that came on my Max IV , with some rubber freeze plugs , but my friend talked me out of this idea . He said you might be able in put them in , but they would be really hard to remove once they were expanded . Tell us how this works out .

I use the same thing as a boat. (Actually 2) The rubber plug with the flip release lever. You can even adjust how tight you wnat them to seal. (Without any tools). Just stick em in the drain holes. flip the lever down, and your done. Depending where your drain holes are might cause concern. If they are underneath, then you worry about catching them on something and ripping them out. Mine are actually in the back wall of the tub at the bottom. All I have to do is make sure the flip handles are up and they are protected by the tub. You can get them at most larger hardware stores and they aren't too expensive. I use 1/2 inchers. It's all just nuts and bolts.

Jeff t-boss ,
Yeah , I bought a pair a 3/4 boat drain plugs with the flip up handles too . I did not have the room to put these kind of drain plugs on the inside of my of my Max IV , and putting them on the outside of the lower tub would not work either , because the flip handles would easily be caught on some thing , and pull the drains plug out .Boncrshr uses a pair of these flip release , boat drain plugs on the inside rear of his Hustler , and they work great .

I tried the 3/4 boat plugs and they were too small for my Max II. These were the plastic Walmart plugs. Better quality adjustable boat plugs might work. The freeze plugs I'm using don't stick out enough to get knocked out. I think these will work out well. If they don't, I'll let you know.

boat plugs
I was looking at using these for my Attex.....
Drain Plug and Receiver Kit from Wholesale Marine
Basically what is used on jet skis on either side of the jet pump. My drain holes are just above the bottom corner of my tub. I was going to bias them up slightly so nothing hung down below the bottom, use a little 3m 5200 and done.
Thats my plan anyway......

Drain Plugs
When I bought my slightly used Max II the previous owner obviously frustrated with the factory "caplugs" had tried the 3/4" boat plugs but like many of the posters had trouble with the flip up handle.I bought a pair and took them to my machinist buddy. He removed the flip up mechanism and made some small bolts from 3/8" brass hex stock. He riveted the very end of the bolt so it can't be backed out of the washer on the end of the plug on the inside when removing. They don't snag anything and are really reliable.Down side is they take a little time to install and remove.I hold the outside perimeter of the plug with water pump pliers and tighten with a 3/8" box end wrench.I think a fair sized allen wrench head would be a bit faster.

You can also get T-handle boat plugs. They are as easy to install as the flip-top type, as you don't need to grip the inside, just the handle. But they can't be flipped open while running, and only take a few extra seconds to install. Plus they are pretty cheap. I found this one for $7.99 on BoatUS.com.Attached FilesAttex 295 Wild Wolf: sigpic My Runner

6x6 ,
The only problem I see with the boat plugs you posted about is this : What happens when you back up to a log or rock or what ever , and the handle that you use to remove the boat plug , gets broke off ?This plug is better than the flip up boat plugs for not getting knocked off , but , you still have a problem with this drain plug design as well .

I use that same boat plug but I remove the T handle bolt and substitute it with a hex head bolt. What might be better than the hex bolt would be a truss head screwdriver style fastener. This will allow even less projection for it to get snagged on objects.

mark m. ,
That sounds like a better idea , and prevents the snag problem I mentioned .
