  • Max clutch alignment

In the process of doing a complete rebuild on my 97 14 hp MaxII and installing a 22hp Predator. What is the distance between the two stationary faces on the clutch supposed to be? or if no one knows could they take a picture with a ruler in it for scale and post it? This is one of our last holdups. Axles and transmission back in and ready to go, body cracks welded up, motor test fit, 6 new Rawhide III's. Jonesing to ride again, bought it new and had many a good hour in it. Sat for the last 8 or 9 years needing chains.

    2 1/4 inches. This is a Comet 780 clutch.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear, this is the alignment between the engine pulley and the driven pulley. I am just about to say the heck with it and line them up as if they were straight V-pulleys and see how it works.

Search the forum, there are several threads that detail the offset of the CVTs better than I could type here. Here's one for you to reference: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/trans...ch-offset.html There's more out there if that one doesn't help.

I guess I should have read more carefully. The measurement I took is not between two stationary faces......I was wondering why you wanted this measurement.

Your offset depends on what RPM your machine will spend the majority of it's time in. I set my Max IV up with a straight edge across the backside of both clutches which gives about 3/16" or a little less. 90% of my driving is just off idle with the exception of swimming where there is no real load anyway.

Mine will spend a good deal of time at full throttle so looks like a 1/4 " will be a good start.
