May go look at a Max II. I believe it is mid 90s and is located 2.5 hours away. I would like to flush out as much info from seller prior to making the drive. What should I be looking for and questions should I ask? Thanks

I am by no means a "expert" on the MaxII. I bought mine back in September, a 1995 MaxII with round 90 original hours. Mine has the 14hp Vanguard. It was in excellent shape with original tires and belt. If you can get the Max jacked up on blocks, you can check the bearings and run it to check for bent axles. Any bent axles will show a "wobble" when the tires are turning. Hard to find a bent axle without doing this. My 1995 has hollow axles with through bolts where as the newer ones from 2000 on came standard with splines axles. Check the underside of the tub really well for damage and repairs. Check the chains, tensioners and sprockets by removing the wingnuts and lifting the top half. You have to raise the seat and remove to cotter pins on either side of the battery to get the top up. Mine has a bar that holds the top up located in the back (kind of like a car hood support). Of course check the motor. Good luck. I'm sure others will have more/better suggestions, but these are the things I checked when buying mine. Jay

Start with asking the owner to tell you his service work he has done and how long ago. That will let you see if thy Know the mechanics of the Max.
Look at and for.
Axles = hollow, solid, splined. If it has the old 3 bolt wheels OR adapters thy are NOT Splined.
Axle bearings = Look for Play up and down, rust dusting, if thy have been greased.
Engine = 2 stroke, 4 stroke, size, original ? if not then Mounting and belt alignment.
Tranny = last time it was serviced and with what ! Dirt, oil leaks, Major play in the shifters and plungers.
Chains = You can pretty much tell there condition by how far the adjusters are up. over half way and you will need chains soon
also look to see if the Sprockets are getting Pointy. If so thy will need replace soon.
Body is pretty much the same as with any atv. Holes, Cuts , modified add on's .
Best thing if you can snap some pics and post them here so we can help look it over !
Good luck !!
