    I need to build a new harness for my max ii, it currently has an extension cord cut up and spliced to make a makeshift harness. Shoddy wiring drives me nuts especially when it seems to be the same color for everything. My question is what gauge wire would you guys recommend? I was thinking 12 awg should be plenty for my plans, but I found an assortment on eBay 6 colors but it's 16 awg. Would this be sufficient? All of my lighting will be led but I plan to have a stereo and cb and one or two 12v power ports and also one or two USB ports for my luxuries. I'm planning at least one bilge pump and have been working out in my head a fan to aid in cooling as well as helping transfer heat into the passenger compartment in the cold months. I will more than likely only have what it takes to run it and stop it at first as I have more important stuff to tend to like chains bearings and repairing a section of frame. With my plans will 16 awg be sufficient? I'm no engineer but I like to do as much as I can on my own. As always thank you guys for all of the great information and passing on some experience.

    I used 16 gauge when I built my harness. I have a bilge pump and some accessory lights on the roll bar. No problems so far. Soldered and heat shrink end what I could, used heat shrink crimp terminals with adhesive lining everywhere else

      That's what my plan was too, all soldered and heat shrink instead of wire nuts and crimp connecters haha

        For what you are planning 16 should be sufficient on everything other than the electric fan. I run my electric fan off of a themostat switch and 12 gauge wire with a relay. I also added a fuse block so everything is protected with fuses. you could use inline fuses if you don't want a fuse block. Then if your wire cant handle the load you will blow the fuse rather than burning up your machine.

          Yes I definitely want a fuse block or bare minimum in line fuses like you mentioned, I'm paralyzed from the waist down so I'm a bit slower getting in and out than the average guy. I don't want to burn and I don't want to burn down a fresh project after it's all put back together. Also I will keep in mind for the fan portion to use heavier gauge wire.

              When you get back to the max I looked at the factory wiring diagrams and most of the wire is 16 gauge. I had about 15 feet of 7 wire trailer wire left over so used it in my II for the harness. Just opened the covering to pull out a couple wires near the battery. It's been in there for years now. Good luck with project.

                My brother in law mentioned that instead of buying wire off eBay for 27 bucks for 6 colors just buy a trailer wiring kit for probably about half, I may just go ahead and do that, ive also been thinking of putting some weather pak plugs for when I separate the upper from lower. But that will come after frame repairs and chains and bearings.
