  • No reverse gear

OK guys first post for me here
i just bought my first Max IV the other day for 500 bucks (couldn't resist at the price) i'm a long time Argo owner and have no difficulty with pullin wrenchs
i took a boo at the how to section on trani's but am still unable to determine from that .what has gone wrong inorder to not have (or at least can't find)reverse. also do max's not have a low range in their trani's , i have not removed the trani yet . just doin some preliminary research
just in case there are several trani's heres some stats on my machine

    ser#19483
    hrs 584
    Kaw 27
    4 seater
    6 wheeler
    Dk Green
    Canopy and winch
what else do you need to know i'm not sure

how can you have no reverse on both sides if they are independant??

    thanks in advance

Are you pulling back on the sticks when in reverse

Welcome to the site. Let's start from the beginning; Once you put the T20 in reverse you actually have to pull the sticks backwards in order to back up. If you are doing that then you may need to check the linkage from the shifter to the transmission.

As for low gear, the way the T20 operates, you do not need one. The only way that you might feel lacking in the torque department is if you have the 26" tires with a smaller motor.

are f"n you kidding that is way too simple LOL
no i didn't know that i needed to pull back on the sticks
when i saw sun gears i should have known
by braking the ring gear you force the shaft to turn the other way
well maybe i got a good deal after all LOL
thanks guys i'll have to go play with my new found reverse gear LOL

            the low gear thing
i was actually lookin for the low gear so that while crossing muskeg i dont rip the moss up, the muskegs up here are commonly floating masses and if you rip it you are instantly stuck, (floating masses can't be walked on but if you are lucky you will be able to crawl on your belly with your winch line and anchor in hand if not you'd better have plenty of corderoy handy LOL) tracks accomplish this by weight distribution but if you don't like the lack of agility of tracks the better way to go is to dually up, and dually's are a tiny fraction of the price of tracks and very easily removable for normal operation ,run the outside set about 2 lbs and normal pressure on the inside that way your bearing stresses don't change and the out side set only come into play when you start to sink into soft matter . low gear gives me the ability to feather the throttle and brakes while watching the drive chains to make sure i don't spin (i run without the front floor-boards )

i'll have to get a pic or two of my dually 16 wheeler

PS your load capacity increases by about 500 lbs with duallys in water
