  • Engine swap

I purchased a max iv a while ago and the Tecumseh oh160 doesn't run so well. I came across a Honda commercial 24hp last week. Is this an easy swap. All I know so far is the shaft on the Tecumseh is 1" and the Honda is 1-1/8. Any advise much appreciated.

Depends on your mechanical and fabrication skills. You will either need to get a new clutch, or have a machine shop bore yours and broach a key. you may need to fab up a motor mount, and exhaust. Wiring will need some modifications as well as fuel line, throttle and choke connections. Not a difficult swap, but it does have some hurdles. The Honda should be a GREAT engine for your machine.

I can handle most of that stuff. The clutch is my concern. Any idea on where to find one for a 1-1/8 shaft?
