  • Engine removal 1996 MAX II

I have a couple engine issues that could be better addressed with the engine out. My issue is how to remove the engine. There are 3 engine mount bolts that I think I can remove with somewhat no problem, but one has me confused. The left rear mount, by the left rear axle is set up such that I just do not see how, even if I do manage to get the bolt/nut off, that I will be able to get it back together. My big clunky hands/fingers are just a wee bit too large to get into such small places to hold a nut/washer in place.

    Anyone have any hints/tricks/etc?

My Max II is a 1999 model with 18 horse B&S engine.

When I needed to slide the engine forward to access the left rear inner bearing for greasing I removed the bolts (the right rear is circled in red) that bolted through the crosswise bracket with the drop in it. I never bothered with trying to undo the bolt that fastens the bracket to the frame.
I also needed to remove the oil filter to get to the left rear engine mounting bolt through the same bracket.

      Thanks onefunzr2
I will check out that option next chance I get.
I had read Mike's 2008 "How to"( http://www.6x6world.com/forums/conte...placement.html ), but found that his engine mounts bushings were the type where the bolt was threaded at both ends. Whereas, both yours and mine have a cap bolt that goes through the bushing. I sure wish my bushings were the MAX IV type ( 16009 ENGINE MOUNT RUBBER - MAX IV
). It would make life so much better.

I guess when I pull my motor I pull the motor mounts with it. Ten you can finagle around better.

No finger wedging should be necessary, the rubber mount has threads in it. Just back the bolt out and grab the rubber with channel locks if it turns with it. Unless it changed betweenthen and 2003.
