I recently purchased a 2001 Max IV. It will go straight back in reverse and will turn on one side, but when I try to turn on the opposite side, nothing happens. Could this be an adjustment issue ? No problems whatsoever in forward.

If you have no problems in forward I would assume one side is not going into reverse. I would place it in reverse and shut off machine, get out and visibly check that both diamond shifters are pointing rearward, if not you can shift the side by hand and then start up and try it again. If it works fine adjustment or learning the shifting process is the issue, if not could be another common issue.
There are pinch points so be careful.sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

I agree with Jim but you may have to go a step further. Remove the diamond shifter from the trans there will be a little pin on the bottom, if it’s wore your machine will give you a problem. I just finished putting 2 new ones in my 4. I ordered them from Richard

Hi pdugas, not sure if u have to remove the engine. kind of doubt it. But if your pins are worn you can heat up the barrel that they are pressed into and pull and turn them over. Just did it to my Hustler. You should post where you are. Another member could be close enough to help you. Good luck Mike

On my 2000 MaxIV, there is a hatch on the table for the passenger side diamond shifter to be removed. On the left side (drivers side) I used and engine lift and unbolted the table legs to get an extra few inches to get the diamond shifter out. Did it this fall. Passenger side pin was worn, drivers side no wear.
