  • Installing Tracks on a Max II

Hi: I am getting mentally prepared for the task of installing the tracks on my Max II.I bought an '03 slightly used in the spring. It came with the axle rails and wheel extensions installed when I got it but I removed them to narrow it in for the summer. It can access places(between trees etc.) better narrow.I will re-install the rails and wheel extensions and service the machine then I will be ready for the tracks.First question: I have read that some recommend removing the drive chains to the front axles to give the power train more power to the tracks.Any opinions on this? Also: I would appreciate any tips on installing the tracks. The information I have at this writing is to remove the center wheels and deflate the front and back tires, put the track around one tire then roll it on the other, install the center wheel and inflate the tires to tighten.Sounds easier than it will be for sure. These tracks would I should think have virtually no time on them possibly as little as an hour or two.How tight should the tracks be?
I'll greatly appreciate any informaion you can give me. Eldon

          Max II tracks

The idea for front chain removal is sound and in fact recomended. I am doing the same to my Buffalo snowcat. Recreatives at one time sold a Max IV with tracks called a TrackMax and there were no front sprokets even.

              Max II

Hi: I am getting my Max II ready for the track installation. As recommended I am removing the front drive chains.Question:With the chains removed and no tension on the adjusters, though they are locked in place, can they fall out and get "eaten" by the remaining chains and sprockets? One engine question:mine is a Kohler Command 23 hp. it takes a Kohler Air Filter # 47-083-03 ,does anyone by chance have any cross reference numbers from other manufacturers in case I cannot locate a Kohler dealer? Thanks Folks.,

Well I got my tracks installed, thanks in large to Hey Dan who recommended front chain removal and of much interest to remove the air from the tire via a shop vac,it collapsed the tires and they went on fairly orderly. The tracks work so good,if I didn't enjoy swimming with her so much I'd be tempted to leave them on for use as a "swamp donkey".
