  • Max IV winch size

Hello I have a Max IV and was wondering what size winch people have been putting on the front of the Max Iv's. I see all types of pulling lbs that winches are offered in. Thanks

I’m happy with the 3500 lb. it’s more than enough. I also recommend synthetic rope for summer and cable if used in winter. Wet slushy conditions.
What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.

I'd think double your maximum weight would work fine, that's how we figured for off road stuff my friends and I built.

I agree that 3500 lb is just about right. My max iv and both of my argo avengers came with 3500 lbs. I installed synthetic rope last year because it is so much nicer to handle. I did not know that it was not recommended for winter use.

I don’t like it because it can freeze on the spool when wet.

I have a Warn 2500# on the front (came from dealer that way) and installed a 2500# wireless remote on the rear from Harbor Freight, only $49. Also installed the same on my wife's Max II. All work great.

My MaxIV also came with a Warn 2500 winch. I'd prefer a 3000 or 3500 though, but it has not failed to pull me out.
I tried a chinese 2500 winch on a Honda Recon, but it wimped out ugly. Perhaps my specific winch was a wimp, others may work though. I'll stay with Warn or Ramsey (my Avenger had a Ramsey)

                  Warn #2500 works great.
