  • No power under load

I have had a 2006 Max II with 16 hp motor for a few years now... I really like the machine except for the fact it does not move at all in the snow.. I just purchased a 2002 Max II with a 18 hp motor and tracks for the snow up here in NY. After changing all the fluids, and greasing her up, I finally got her to my property yesterday. I was disappointed that under load there seems to be no power to the wheels/tracks. Going up a slight hill to the camp the RPMS were high, but no power to the wheels/tracks. It seemed to help a little when I pushed the handles forward. Same thing happens when there is an obstacle, trying to go over a log that my wheeled 16 hp max goes over without hesitation, the tracked max just stops. Is there a simple adjustment that needs to be made? is the clutch slipping?

It sounds like you need to adjust the bands on the transmission. Interestingly, you note that "It seemed to help a little when [you] pushed the handles forward". This indicates to me an adjustment problem or a band problem (bands are internal to the transmission).

Hi....I would suggest checking belt tension first...for me that was the simplest and quickest fix to my similar problem a year or so back...my 14HP had zip for uphill power until I readjusted the belt....then, what a difference!
