  • Max half tracks for snow, ideas

Hello, I saw a picture of a max on this site with half tracks and was wondering if two snowmobile skis could be put on to replace the two front wheels so the front of the max doesn't plow through the snow. I would disconnect the chains that drive the front wheels. I also read that you could disconnect the chains from the middle wheels to the rear wheels and just have the two rear wheels drive the half tracks.
Just wondering if this is possible ! My 2009 max IV was bought to be used in just snow on my property. My max IV was just terrible last winter with just rubber 26 inch tires on her. The only upstate NY snow I took the Max out in was wet and heavy,,, so that may not have been a good test for it.

het friend... i have made and run my own halftracks on my max 2 and they worked well ( after some experimenting and tweeking ) . if you punchin '' johnboys half track max '' there is a video . also i have been running halftracks with my adairs also . ( checkout video under '' busco ride oct. 2018 on this site. do you have a 6 wheel or 8 wheel machine ? if it's a 6 wheel you can drive the back 2 tires with tracks and try skis on the front axle. they may need to be short and wide and will may or may not need to pivot . not sure on that. when you will be turning ofcourse .. the skis will slide sideways in the snow , but i wouldn't think there would be much resistance. not sure how the setup would work . but halftracks in snow with tires on front work pretty well. if your going to buy the tracks i'm not sure halftracks are that much cheaper . just some ideas... johnboy va.

I just joined and have no real advice but wanted to comment. the max 4 I had years ago was also a disappointment in snow more than 3-4" deep. Made me want tracks too.

Not sure if skies would help at all. Getting high centered is going to happen if your front floated on snow or not.
