  • Axel will not budge

I am trying to replace the right rear outside axel bearing. I have tried everything to get the axel out. This is only a 2003 and it seems to be welded in place. I've tried penetrating oil, slide hammer, air hammer, and heat. I am sure by now I need to replace the inner bearing and the sprocket due to collateral damage. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am about ready to get the Metabo and cut the axel, the sprocket, and the inner bearing. I really cannot afford to get midevel on this B**** but I am at my wits end.

      stuck axle

Don't butcher the axle without trying to slice the locking collar and bearing if neccesary. I'm working on an older Buffalo and used this method recently. I sliced the inner collar first with a die grinder and cutoff disc then spread it with a large screwdriver and wrench for extra force. The bearing was sliced once to axle and a second partway slice. It broke into pieces when twisted with the screwdriver. The axle pulled out with a few pops of the dent puller.I was careful and only left a small mark in the axle. If sprocket stuck you might be able to heat it and cool axle with a sprayer of water. The slice worked for me but might be useless for a splined axle that is rusted badly.
