On my MAXII My control levers are spring loaded so that they are pulled forward all the time. This is great when driving forward but a royal pain when driving in reverse. Is there a reason for the springs?

The springs are kinda a preference thing around here, some love them and some don't so they remove them. One good thing is that the machine is basically in park when the engine is off and trans in reverse, you can also one hand it a little bit. You still should push the sticks forward with springs under load.sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Well I did find out one thing, I had noticed that my machine does not have the ratchet on the foot brake to use as a parking brake so that eliminates that as a parking option. The other thing I found out was that the foot brake is absolutely WORTHLESS in reverse!!!! I was practicing putting the max in the back of my pickup and taking it out and I thought that the foot brake would make for a more steady and straight exit from the truck down the ramps. Yea, right. BONSAI!!!!!!! Luckily it stayed on the ramps but the brake did nothing. Thinking about it it is a band brake and band brakes are designed to tighten on themselves as they go in one direction. The other direction it is just the amount of pressure you can apply and that is nothing compared to the band pulling itself in on itself. So I think that instead of removing the springs I will lighten them up some but leave them tight enough to hold the brakes in the transmission.
