  • new to aatv and this max 2

Hello all, new here and to aatv world although I have seen them for many years in ads. Had a friend who was moving give me this max 2, pretty much a barn find as it sat in his barn for over ten years collecting dust and have no idea when it ran last but hour meter says 99 hours, he said take it or its getting scrapped so here we are. All we did was hook up to tractor and pulled it out of the barn all chains (which will be replaced) and bearing spun with no issue, engine turns with good compression but not running currently, just thought i'd put out a little background as I plan on getting this machine going and will have questions along the way. Hope the picture comes through.

My plan as of now is to check the t20 tranny and replace the #40 chains with new o-ring chains, all bearings spin fine with no slop so good greasing and watch for wear but no visible rust or slop, in time all new splined axles with bigger drive chains bearings and upgrade to inner bearings about $2500 but would be like new again, pulling jlo 2 stroke and replacing with Polaris sportsman 500 engine I have, t20 tranny should be able to handle the torque and hp without any issue but I suppose time will tell but the clutch setup should mesh perfectly as far as I can see, so that's where I am now any thoughts would be appreciated like I said new to this and would like to hear from anyone with more knowledge and experience.

Welcome to the site and congrats on your Max II. You can't beat free. Regarding the engine swap, because the 2 stroke spins higher rpms the clutch will behave differently when you put it on a 4 stroke motor. You might be able to change weights and springs in the clutch to make it work right, but I'm not sure. Good luck and keep us updated with pics.

Bentpines. I had the exact same machine with a white frame I believe it was a 73 or 74 but it was about in the same exact shape.my buddy bought it from me and went through everything and threw a predator 22hp engine in it and it runs pretty darn well. Only thing he did other than stock was go with 50 chain sprockets to the wheels, other than that it’s original stuff!
If you come to ash in June it will be there.
            Good luck with it!

Thanks for the welcome look forward to the project it will be a fun fix up, I can't let a good machine go to scrap, I don't like this throw away world were in now and will update as I go to bring it back to life. With enough time and luck i'll be at pine lakes this year only a 30 minute ride from home hope to meet some members there.
