Noob with questions

Thank you 6x6. I am sure this will be very helpful. I have so many things I want to do to this thing but so little $$. I guess thats the typical hobbiest huh?

Anyways, I need to find some cheap tires get my steering fixed and get the tranny in working order then a full loob job and I am ready to attack my trolling motor and hit the duck hole! I cant wait. Duck Hunting in flooded Arkansas timber is going to be fun with this toy!

Thanks George... I will have someone that knows how to work on these things check them out. I can work on a Chevrolet Engine and vehicle parts but not this thing. LOL

Welcome to 6X6World! Like yourself, I do a lot of mechanical work (It's not my job, but it is my hobby) but untill less than a year ago, had no experience with these. I now have done a complete teardown and rebuild of my T-20, and it's VERY easy! There are no real suprises, and the worst you have to deal with are a couple snap-rings, so keep those S-R Pliers handy and you can do it in less than a day. Just click on "How To's" at the top of the page on this site, and then scroll down a little to "Transmission Articles" Theres one on how to remove the tranny from the Max II and a couple on rebuilding it, "T20 Skid Steer Rebuild" is the most thorough article, and leaves no suprises at all.

He had a late model Max II with the rear exhaust exit, and put 24" Argo Frontier tires on it. It looked great, and he was very pleased with the performace.

You could take a peek at the videos on Brandon's web site. Might decide that a trolling motor is a waste of time because the frontier tires are so fast in the water,and light and soft riding....

If you use the stock wheels, you will be limited to tires that both fit those wheels and are not so tall that they rub on the tub of your Max.

22" are the largest that Recreative offers in the Max II, but I know a fellow who made 24" tall tires fit on his Max II.

Sounds like you might need to loosen the bands on the right side. I don't have access to a T-20 at the moment but I believe the lower plunger controls braking while you're going forward. It could be they are adjusted so tight that they begin braking as the laterals are being moved to the neutral position. If they are way too tight, yoy might even be engaging the brakes while going forward (even before neutral) with the laterals.

Hey George, do you know what size the factory tires on this beast are? I am looking to put some aggressive mud tires on it. Since I am going to put a 42 lb thrust Motor Guide trolling motor on it, I need something to get me through the mud. I will have the water licked, I just need to know what tires to put on. I am not interested in changing my wheels only putting on new tires. I really like these tires, but I dont know if they will fit. Welcome to Richard's Relics Parts for ATV's

Hello everyone, I am new to the forums and this is my first post. I was given a "hand me down" Max II from my father. I have a few questions and what better place to get advice than from the pros here at www.6x6world.com forums.

My 1992 MaxII 6x6 has a 16 HP Briggs and Stratton Vanguard motor and a T-20 tranny. When I am driving it and let off the throttle, it pulls very hard to the right. The faster I go the harder it pulls to the right when I let off the throttle.

Two of the tires will hold air only for a short time, I know they need to be replaced but I really think my problems are coming from the cable linkage for the steering. Also, the reverse doesnt seem to work. You know how it jumps somewhat when you put it into foward, well it doesnt do that at all when you put it in reverse. My brother-in-law said their may be a sheer pin broke off or the reverse bands may be broke.

I know these are a lot of questions but if you can answer any of them (or all even) that would be a tremendous help to me. I am planning on putting a 42 lb thrust motor guide trolling motor on it to help propell me to the duck blind but non of this is going to happen until I get it running right. If you have any suggestions or ideas please share them..... Your new forum noob... MaximusII
