  • Max II for ice fishing......any recommendations

Bought my second 6x6, this one a Max II with intentions of being my new ice fishing vehicle, any recommendations on what i should do to ready this unit. Ive put all new chains on, adjusted the bands and its ready to go.....so now i want to put a rack on the rear for cargo, a winch and a new mount that i will fab up, thought about studding the tires instead of tracks. An encloser for driver and passenger might be in order, although not entirely necessary, my shantie has heat and i normally only drive out 1 mile. My machine has all 6 tires dry rotted and the previous owner tubed all 6, wich i dont mind. Being the tires are junk and would never hold air I thought about running the studs (sheet metal screw style) right onto the treads of my Rawhides and would leave them forever making these winter only tires. Should i expect my throttle cable to freeze?

    Screws and tubes don't mix.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

440....maybe some chains would be a possibility for traction ? j.b.

        A 1/2" depth stud wouldn't touch a tube

I outfitted my Max IV for ice fishing. It’s not a II but at least give you some ideas. Check out my thread “max modifications for winter”. For the throttle cable take it out and hang it up over night, then blow air through it and fill with oil. Then buy a spare and tape it along side the one that’s already in place. Then you’re all set should you break one out in the cold.

What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.
